In this post I compiled a list of games that I think you would enjoy if you’re a fan of the Far Cry series, we’re not talking about exact same types of games here, it’s more like games that has some features that you can find in Far Cry, we’re talking fun action filled game that’s worth playing for PC, Xbox 360, Mac and Ps3. Let’s spread the destruction.
I’ll include a short presentation on each game on the list followed by game trailers or gameplay videos and links where you can find more information about the game. I hope you find something worth playing.
First on the list is Borderlands 2. This is a first person shooter game that has a strong RPG focus similar in the Far Cry games. In Borderlands 2 is great action filled shooter where you’ll get your hands on a range of different weapons, everything from shotguns, snipers, assault rifles to more unique and special weapons and skills for this game series.
Critics love Borderlands, the players love Borderlands, and if you love FPS you will love it, nuff said.
What makes Borderlands 2 really unique is how the game is meant for co-op gameplay, you can play the game with 3 other people at the same time and the game is at it’s best when playing together with others. Don’t worry if you don’t have anyone to play with, there’s plenty of gamers online to play with. Another feature that’s quite unique for a FPS is the loot system you can find in Borderlands, everywhere you’ll find loot like money and new weapons that will help you get better in combat, it’s overall just a great mixture of First person shooter and Role playing game, a very fresh mash up if you ask me.
Available for Ps3, Xbox360, PC & Mac
Just Cause 2
This game is all about the chaos you can create, don’t expect a story from this game, instead you get dropped into a huge open world where you can find weapons, cars and a lot of enemies for you to kill. Think of Just Cause 2 as a crazy crazy third person version of Far Cry 3, where you can do everything you could ever think off (oh well at least it feels like that when playing sometimes)
It’s hard to explain this game but it’s pretty much a action filled open world game where you can do the most crazy and silly thinks you could ever think of, I suggest you check out the trailer below to get a better understanding of what this insane game is all about. If you love freedom, crazy action and games where you choose what should happen then I would defiantly recommend Just Cause 2.
Available for Ps3, Xbox 360, PC
This next game in the list might not be a open world FPS like Far Cry 3 for example, but don’t let that bring you down, because Tomb Raider still brings out the same kind of fun action filled gameplay that you can find in FC. In Tomb Raider you play as Lara Craft in this new take on this old gaming series, they made Lara into a real well made character then you care about, and they did this with some amazing story and nerve racking gameplay (in a good way).
You play this game in third person view and you’ll meet hordes of enemies you’ll have to defeated with a range of different weapons. Tomb Raider has a lot in common with the game series Uncharted, if you ever played Uncharted you can expect similar kind of gameplay from this game. You can also check out the trailer below to get a better understanding for the gameplay and the game itself.
Available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC gaming.
Dead Island Riptide
This next game has a lot of similarities to Far Cry if you asked me, expect that there’s zombies, a lot of zombies everywhere.
In Dead Island Riptide you’ll play of one of 5 survivors on a island filled with zombies and you’re mission is to survive. The game is a first person shooter with RPG elements like exp and leveling up just like Far Cry, you’ll be playing a big open-world where there’s plenty of things to do. There’s a large amount of blood, gore and some horror in this game so keep that in mind if you’re interested in this game.
The game has gotten mixed reviews but I suggest you read up on the game and watch some gameplay and reviews and make up your own mind, because we all have different taste when it comes games.
Available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC
Assassin’s Creed games
If you’re after the open world feeling from Far Cry but you’re after something a bit different then Assassin’s Creed might be something for you. In AC you’ll play as a highly trained assassin with jumping and climbing skills like a monkey. You’ll be able to do different missions where you need to kill certain people, sometimes you need to use stealth in order to avoid detection and death. You can also walk around and do what you want in a big open-world, which is also fun for awhile before it gets boring. It’s a great mixture of stealthy combat where you need to hide and plan your moves wisely, but you can also expect a lot of action and intense gameplay.
Might not be that similar to Far Cry but it’s still a great game series worth mentioning.
I would recommend checking out Assassin’s Creed 3, if you don’t care that much about the story of the game, but if you do you should of course start with the first game in the series.
Available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I know, this one is a wildcard, but stay with me now. This might not be a first person shooter and it might be set in a fantasy world but what if I would say that Far Cry is like Skyrim with guns, I know that’s not completely true but the two games still have some similarities really. They’re both open world games and has RPG elements like skills. It all comes down to why you loved the Far Cry games, was it for the open world? Then Skyrim can offer you that, in a completely different package of course.
If you don’t know about Skyrim already I’ll give you a quick overview. Skyrim is a open-world RPG game where you choose how to play the game, you can be anything from a archer, magician, berserker with a huge weapon or many more, you choose what kind of character you want to play, and you also choose what you want to do in the game. There’s the main story quests to do in the game but there’s also countless of quests and locations to be discovered all over the game, they’re just waiting for you to explore them, it’s really hard to come by this amazing freedom that Skyrim offers, so if you loved the freedom of Far Cry 3 then you might like Skyrim, at least if you’re open for playing other games then first person shooters.
Available for Xbox 360, PC, PS3
