Steam has become a huge gaming tool, community and of course game store, with over 4 million users using Steam all the time it’s one gigantic community. And there’s a huge selection of games you can buy from the Steam store, so are great and many are pure crap, and sometimes is can get tricky waddling around in this huge sea of crap games, that’s why I made this list, to recommend some great games that you can find on Steam.
Peoples taste in games are of course different and we all enjoy different kind of games and genres, this is a list of games that I think is the best on Steam, and you might agree or disagree, see it as a list of recommendation of games that I and thousands of other gamers have enjoyed playing. You’ll also find link to Green man gaming for some games, I included those when Green Man Gaming had a lower price for that specific game then the Steam Store, so decently worth checking out. Now…Let the list begin!
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The best selling RPG
Skyrim is one of the most sold games of all time, and it’s no wonder because this single player role playing game has features that other RPGs would only dream about.
Skyrim is set in a open world filled with quests, mini-quests and hiding caves and places just waiting to be explored. You can customize your character like you want by choosing from a sea of different weapons, spells and skills. If there’s a game on Steam that’s worth it’s money it’s defiantly Skyrim, you’ll get so much content for your money if you decide to buy this game.
First person shooter mixed with RPG elements
The phrase “Loot and shoot” is a perfect description of Borderlands 2, the game is a your standard first person shooter mixed with several Role playing elements, for example with weapons, money and armor dropping when killing enemies, and the ability to customize your character with new skills and abilities when you gain experience and level up.
It’s a great mixture that creates a great game, making it one of the best first person shooters on Steam. Borderlands have both a single player campaign and a online co-op mode, both which are extremely fun. There’s also a huge sea of DLCs for this game, so if you want more after you’re finished with Borderlands 2 there’s more to play.
Team Fortress 2
Free to play Online FPS
Valve’s Online First person shooter, Team Fortress 2 went free to play a few years ago, introducing a crafting, hats and a bunch of other useless things. But the game itself is one of the best online first person shooters out there. It might not be your ordinary first person shooter like Call of Duty or Battlefield, but Team Fortress 2 offers something ells, action filled mayhem covered in fun.
In Team fortress 2 you pick between 9 different classes to play with, each got different weapons and abilities, all classes have their own weaknesses and special abilities that make them great. The whole game has a wonderful and cartoonish design making this a bright breeze in the otherwise so dark and serious first person shooter genre.
Left 4 Dead
This co-op zombie survival game is already a classic in it’s genre. The whole game is meant to be played with 4 players at once, working together fighting off zombies and whatnot, if you can’t find 3 other player to play with the other players will be controlled by the computer instead.
Left 4 Dead is all about working together, there’s several elements in the game where you need your co-players in order to survive, so don’t even think about running into the darkness fighting off these zombies be yourself, you’ll be dead before you even know it. You’ll find intense survival action in this flawless first person shooter game, making this one of the best games on Steam.
There’s also a sequel to Left 4 Dead. Left 4 dead 2 which I would recommend you’d also check out.
The Orange Box
Portal, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two and Team Fortress 2
The Orange box was released many years ago on Steam and included a bunch of great games, Portal, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two and also Team Fortress 2 (back then it wasn’t free)
I will start talking about Half-Life 2 and the two episodes, Half Life 2 is a single player first person shooter where you take the role as Gordan Freeman, it’s a classic Valve game with rich and compelling story. One of the best single player FPS you can find, a mix of great story and great action makes Half-Life 2 a must-have in your Steam Library, simply Valve at it’s best.
In the Orange Box you’ll also get Portal, if you haven’t heard about Portal you must have been living under a rock or something, Portal was a huge success with it’s first person puzzle challenges, with the help of the Portal gun you’ll shoot two different portals, a entrance and a exit, enter the entrance and you’ll come out in the exit, sounds simple but it gets rather complex as the game goes on. With a mix of fantastic humor that games rarely see and the puzzling puzzle elements makes Portal a sublime game.
The Orange Box is a must have for any Valve fan, it’s filled with so many great games it’s silly not to get them, and the price tag is extremely low consider how much fun you will have with this bundle of games.
